Consider the impact that Words & Images have on society

Words, images, advertisements, photography, and media engulf our lives. So, I pose these two questions when viewing my postings:

How do visual and verbal rhetoric affect society? How do they shape communities, people, and cultures?

Both visual and verbal rhetoric influence how people think, feel, and react to what they see or hear. No matter how small the intent, words, images, advertisements, photography, and the media have the power to change a community(s), a person(s), or culture(s).

SHOW AND TELL A CONCEPT

Nike encouraged passerby to stop and walk or run a while on an interactive, ground level billboard with a built-in treadmill, located in Mexico. For every kilometer run, Nike donated a certain amount of money to Unicef.

Nike's Transparent Billboard campaign encourages people to run! But I can't tell if it's a frame you can walk through or if it's a painting.

Formula Toothcare (I've never heard of that brand of toothcare) advertising the product's ability to build strong teeth.

  1. I really like the toothcare advertisement. It definitely expresses how strong their brand is by showing the frame of the billboard stuck to the back of the billboard surface.

The Nike's transparent billboard is a little ambiguous in execution. It looks as if you could run through the frame, but then again, it looks as if it could possibly be a solid transparent surface that you couldn't run/walk through. If that is the case, how successful is Nike in promoting run/walking? Unless Nike is conveying the act of running/walking in a more radical nature, especially with their slogan "Just Do It" and running through the transparent surface.

    I don't know really...just a little food for thought.

  2. Hey Right Everyday (wink)! I like the toothcare billboard too.

I believe NIke's trying to persuade people to run...and saying, "oh, while you're at it, try running with our shoes on; it's equal to this scenery."
